BENGALURU: Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) has tied up with private agencies to take up preventive maintenance measures to reduce power outages in the city.
These measures have been taken due to the rise in the number of complaints by consumers. Out of the 12 divisions, Shivajinagar, Jayanagar, Indiranagar and Koramangala account for the highest revenue and the largest number of complaints.
Some of the preventive measures include installing pre-stressed concrete (PSC) poles, intermediate poles and spacers between conductors and the removal of dead branches over electricity lines.
Speaking about the outsourcing measures, Mr N. Ravi Kumar, BESCOM E-3 Station Engineer said, “BESCOM has undertaken steps to outsource maintenance in order to meet the demands during the time of power cut. This is due to electricity poles falling because trees are getting uprooted with the heavy rains.”
BESCOM is setting up panels to reduce the cost of poles and maintenance. Of the total work, 35 per cent of the maintenance work has been outsourced. This will help tend to complaints and help in clearing and erecting electricity poles.
