Over 200 students participated in the garbage collection drive, a part of the “Swacch SJC” campaign, at St Joseph’s College on Saturday.

The drive was inspired by the Swacch Bharat campaign and was organised by the All India Catholic University Federation (AICUF). Students from various departments spent over two hours collecting litter from the College campus.

Jenophine Joseph, President of AICUF, felt it was a very humbling initiative. “It is very important that, as students, we learn to clean our own mess. We found the maximum amount of garbage near the corners of the sports field, and I think that with just a little effort, we can avoid this litter altogether. We need to respect our surroundings, as well as the people who clean the campus everyday.”

He added that AICUF was planning to make garbage collection drive a regular affair so that students could help clean different parts of the College on a rotational basis.
