BENGALURU: All India Canara Bank SC/ST Association protested against Canara Bank for violating the judgment given by Supreme Court on reservation, at their head office at JC Road on Wednesday.
In its judgment on January 9, 2015 Supreme Court had declared that there shall be no reservation in promotion for top posts in bank. But it had also decreed that reservation policy be followed in promotions for scale I to scale VI .
The struggle for reservations has been going on for past 18 years. On December 1, 2009 the battle was taken to Madras High Court, but was not implemented by the bank. The uncertainty continued for six more years till the Association took it to the Supreme Court.
“Canara Bank has no right to violate the Supreme Court order. We have been fighting for the past 18 years. SC/STs must be given equal importance in managerial post,” said Mr Jakkapanavar, General Secretary of All India ST/SC Association.
“It is not only here, but also in other banks like RBI, insurance companies, and national banks do not allow SC/ST to get managerial jobs” said Jakkapanavar.
