BENGALURU: The surroundings of Shivajinagar and St Mary’s Basilica were packed with thousands of pilgrims seeking to honour and pray to Mother Mary on the day of her nativity.
Holy masses in various languages were offered on Tuesday before the procession, in which the six-foot tall statue of Mother Mary, draped in a silk saree, was carried around the streets of Shivajinagar.
Bernard Blasius Moras, Archbishop of Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bangalore, led the special prayers along with a number of priests from various parishes during the most celebrated feast of the Archdiocese.
The streets of Shivajinagar were filled with devotees dressed in saffron. “I come here every year to see Mother Mary on her birthday, and offer prayers along with my family,” said R Gopinath, a devotee from Benson Town.
The holy ceremonies came to a close with the special thanksgiving mass which was offered at the Basilica at 8.30 p.m. after the Decorated Car Procession.
The nine-day annual feast had started on August 29, 2015.
