BENGALURU: Social activists staged a protest on Sunday at the Town Hall against the transfer of Subodh Yadav from his post of BBMP Special Commissioner for Solid Waste Management to secretary of the Karnataka Public Service Commission.
Yadav served as special commissioner, solid waste management, for the last eight months. On Saturday, he was transferred as secretary to the Karnataka Public Service Commission. After a month-long training in Mussoorie, he is to take charge of the post here.
But social activists, NGOs, and other organizations want him back to the civic agency. Also an online petition has been circulated in an effort to stop the transfer.
The protesters claimed that Yadav was leading a well-planned strategy to clear the city of its mounds of garbage. But the untimely and unjustified transfer just removed the blanket from evolving Solid Waste Management reforms.
“Yadav was bringing in transformational change in managing waste and was moving towards using more technology in managing waste as well as holding officials accountable,” said Kavitha Reddy, an organizer of the protest.
Soon after the announcement of the official transfer, social media was flooded with support for Yadav under the hashtag #Bringbacksubodhyadav.
