BENGALURU: The St Joseph’s College of Commerce (SJCC) organised a blood donation camp in association with the South Indian Bank on Wednesday on its campus.
The blood donation camp was organised with an intention to break the existing record made by the Shehshadripuram College, of having maximum blood donation by college students in a single day. Shesadripuram College collected 10,000 bottles of blood in the year 2012.
“This was an initiative by the student union and they intend to break the record. The student union took the initiative of arranging the blood donation camp and co-ordinating with the faculty to adjust the class timings in order to get maximum participation and involvement of the students,” said Fr Vincent Paul, vice-principal of SJCC.
The collected blood will be deposited with the Lions Blood Bank to count and give the results on Thursday. The earlier blood record was also monitored by this outfit at Seshadripuram.
“It’s a great step towards saving humanity and the feeling we get when we donate blood to help someone is beyond words,” said Shakti Ramesh, a student of SJCC. “The teachers were very supportive and encouraging there were even few who participated in the blood donation camp despite their contribution not being valid for the record making,” she added.
