BENGALURU: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) went on a strike on February 22, 2017, in front of the District commissioner’s office demanding reservation for SC/STs for getting promoted.

The Supreme court has canceled the order passed on February 9, 2002, regarding the reservation in promotion for the SC/STs. SC had a reservation at 15 percent and the ST had a reservation of 3 percent. Since 2002 over ten thousand employees from 36 different departments have not got a promotion.

The BSP demands include Karnataka government to appeal to Supreme Court to rethink about their decision and give reservation to the SC/STs in the promotion, The new proposed bill should be introduced in the budget session and the central government to bring about constitutional amendments to promote the bill.

The honorable justice of the supreme court said ‘reservation is not a charity, it’s a parity’ in context to which the BSP calls on a strike as the SC/STs are denied from their political, social and educational rights as it intends to bring in equality.
