He adorns walls with people and their lives

CAMPUS: He calls himself an “urban sketcher” — one who observes people and their daily activities, and then turns them into murals.

It was this ability of his that Abhimanyu Ghimiray, the founder of Aambo Studio showed the audience at a masterclass during Meraki, the national-level fest organised by the Department of Communication at St Joseph’s College (Autonomous).

Ghimiray has worked with Coca-Cola India, Microsoft and Facebook. However, he is most recognised in the city for his design at the Chickpet Metro Station.

“I just roamed around the streets of Chickpet, observed the people there, prepared some sketches and then put it up on the wall,” he said while talking about the project.

“I quit my job in order to follow my passion of art and design. Sometimes, it’s just not about the money. Follow your passion, and money will follow you. Follow your heart and you will be the happiest person ever,” said Ghimiray to a student who asked if mural design can be a good employment opportunity and a steady source of income.
