Students make art out of scrap

CAMPUS: How can scrap and other materials discarded at home be put to good use?

Homemaker-artist Shipra Gupta answered that question ably during a home craft masterclass at St Joseph’s College (Autonomous) on Tuesday, February 26: She got a bunch of differently-abled students to happily make home-decor items!

The Department of Communication organised this class especially for the differently-abled people as part of the national-level fest Meraki. CBM, a key sponsor of this fest, brought the students for this class.

They were accompanied by students of other colleges across the city, besides those from the host college.

Gupta conducted the class for about two hours, teaching the students to paint items like empty boxes and glass bottles to reuse them as decorative items.

“This event was organised to encourage the differently-abled to be more independent and keep themselves engaged by doing productive and fun things,” said M Mythili, a volunteer at the event.

The students who took part in the masterclass thoroughly enjoyed the session and created their own items for decoration, staying back longer than the allotted time
